Band: AUDIE BLAYLOCK AND REDLINE
Album: Self-Titled
Label: Rural Rhythm
The bluegrass genre is pound for pound one of the most unique genres. The combination of the front porch pickin’, simple life style with some of the most incredible musicianship out there makes for an easy listen when you are listening to the top-notch bluegrassers. Audie Blaylock is one of those top-notch players! Blaylock is a name that has been bouncing around the bluegrass world for quite some time now, but with his new band Redline as well as a brand new label, Rural Rhythm, backing his latest effort he is making an even bigger splash on the genre. The opening track, “Whispering Waters” instantly introduces you to Audie Blaylock’s traditional infused modern bluegrass through great vocals and harmonies, the whine of a fiddle, and the sweet sounds of the mandolin enriching your ears. This style continues to be present throughout the album on tracks like “Lonesome Weary Heart,” Send Me Your Address From Heaven,” and “Roll on Blues.” However, Blaylock’s respect for the traditionalists of the genre is worn proudly on his sleeve as well. You can’t help but feel like you’ve been transported back to the days when the Ryman Auditorium hosted the Grand Ole Opry when you listen to the more traditional brand of country/bluegrass on tracks like “Two Lonely Hearts,” and “My Blue Eyes Darling.” This is a no frills, no doubt about it, bluegrass album that takes enough time to honor and respect that traditional styles of the genre while at the same time Audie Blaylock and Redline make it their own and move it forward into a new generation.
