Band: BILLY DEAN
Album: Sings Richard Leigh
Label: BDMG
By: Jeff Kurtis
Billy Dean is no stranger to the country music fans. His hit songs like “Let Them Be Little,” “Somewhere In My Broken Heart,” “Once In A While,” and countless others have all been staples on country radio for over a decade. With his latest offering Billy Dean Sings Richard Leigh, Dean has paid tribute to hit songwriter Richard Leigh and does the songs tremendous justice. Kicking off the album is his take on the Reba McEntire hit “The Greatest Man I Never Knew” and you instantly know that you are in for a real treat with the album as Dean begins to sing lending his voice to the classic song. As you dig forward Dean’s outstanding voice continues to wrap around the well-crafted lyrics of hits like Crystal Gayle’s “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” which closes the album. With subjects that focus on love and romance Dean seems to be the perfect fit to deliver these songs. His passion and respect for Richard Leigh is evident as you listen to the album and that is the true selling point of it. The songs are of course great songs as Richard Leigh had a songwriting craft about him that is hard to come across, but it takes a special voice to deliver the songs and that voice comes from Billy Dean. A definite must listen for those fans of great songwriting that aren’t looking for an album full of up-tempo cuts, but rather passion filled songs with a lot of heart to the lyric.
