Though national success may not have come yet for Bobby Marquez, there is no doubt that he has found it on the Texas Charts. He has already found two of his songs in the top 20 and has had breakout success with “She’s Not From Texas.” With his latest single “That’s Life” he has topped the charts for the first time and it is pretty easy to see why upon first listen. His Texas roots and more importantly his traditional influences are easily heard from the moment you hit play and the simple strumming of the guitar begins throughout the first verse before the whine of the steel guitar comes in giving it that Texas dancehall sound. However, the music sits a bit to the back acting as more of an accompaniment to the lyric and vocals, which is where this song shines. The lyric focuses on the things that truly matter in life like chasing your dreams, the golden rule, believing in God, to the last verse where life comes full circle as we see him focus on grandma’s passing and his sister having a baby. The slower tempo of the song is a sure way to get those couples out on the dance floor while the lyric does the trick in giving the listener a solid message of the things that so many of us forget to think about. By wrapping his honest delivered vocal around easy to relate to aspects of life for anyone and everyone, Marquez is going to find fans in pockets of small towns and big cities all over the country.
