Harmonies are one of the most important aspects to bluegrass music. Without any drums pounding through the songs in the background, it is the rich voices that have to make up the difference. The tricky thing with harmony is finding the perfect group of people to come together to create them, unless you are dealing with a family band. The harmonies within’ family groups are always spot on and Gold Heart is no exception as they show on their new album My Sisters and Me. In just four short years the female trio grasped their sound and focused hard on their songwriting and it shows the moment you hit play and “Grin And Bear It” wraps around you and captivates you. The musicianship along with their harmony carries you through the song and keeps you wanting more. The good news is that as you dig forward into the album it just keeps coming, as it seems one song gets better than the last. The more mid-tempo paced songs like “Sing A Little Louder,” “Chasing Lightning Bugs,” and “Ride Of Your Life” keep your foot-tapping along with the solid banjo plucking while the slower paced songs like “Amidst Life’ Storm” and “Heavenly Home” see the girls bringing their voices to the forefront of the songs to deliver their very well written lyrics. With plenty of sibling acts out there now what are the factors that makes one stand out from the rest? It is simple, the honesty factor combined with the obvious love for the genre is a good starting point and Gold Heart is clearly a group that loves it.
