James Otto Video Shoot

James Otto Video Shoot
SPECIAL TREAT FOR OTTOMANIACS
by S. Parks

12th and Porter, Nashville’s choice venue for the taping of music videos, hosted the latest for the James Otto video catalog.  The secret was out.  The shoot would be for “Ain’t Gonna Stop” and the line formed at the tour bus.  The patiently waiting, pre-registered and wrist-banded Ottomaniacs were as determined as the song declares to get a good spot at the stage.

This hard-driving, riff-ridden anthem is another MuzikMafia creation, written by James, John Rich, Big Kenny and Nikki Sixx.  The “Sunset Man” album seems to spawn one hit after another as congratulatory banners pop up on Music Row.

The video is to promote college football for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and it follows the Damien Horne video, “She Can Play”, for girls’ basketball, produced by the same group.

Fans carefully stepped around cables and tracks as the filming took place in between touch-ups by a make-up girl who must have stood on her tiptoes to reach this statuesque singer.  With his hair flying in the breeze, the shooting was complete after a few takes.  James then thanked the audience with a special concert.

Sharing the stage with his remarkable band featuring Tyler and Kyle and Justin Meeks on drums, James sang a string of hits to the packed house including “These are the Good Ole Days” (written with Shannon Lawson, also of MuzikMafia), and “You Don’t Act Like My Woman”.  James was raring to introduce new songs including “Sun Comes Round”, “Since You Brought It Up” and an unforgettable “Shake What God Gave You”, surely in line for the top of the charts.

Halfway through the set, he donned a hat which seemed to magically transform him into his alter genre with more of an R&B flavor.   After mentioning his Navy connections with his grandfather, he gave us an award-winning performance of “In Color”, co-written with and made famous by Jamey Johnson.  The record-breaking hit “Just Got Started Lovin’ You” closed the set to thunderous applause.

Following James was a special surprise.  The Seven Day Binge band presented a hard rocking set with a smidge of bluesy edge.  Fronted by familiar MuzikMafia favorite, John “King” Nicholson, the star-studded group features Kenny Olson, legendary guitarist (formerly with Kid Rock), Todd Harrell of Three Doors Down and amazing drummer Shannon Boone.  You just had to be there.  Kenny’s guitar solos were nothing less than unbelievable and John’s vocals were outstanding, all as usual.  This package of top songwriters topped themselves with their signature song, “Seven Day Binge” and there’s lots more to come.  When legends come together, legendary music happens.

Follow the Otto train to the next show, which happens to be a benefit for CCFA in a few days with Randy Houser.  Check out the info at:  http://www.todayscountrymag.com/budsnsudsevent.htm.
