Band: JEANNE TURNER
Album: Self-Titled
Label: GodsChild Records
The Christian based genre is usually filled with great stories of triumph and the overcoming of obstacles, and while Jeanne Turner's story follows that similar suit their is something much more endearing about hers than with most. For her to get to this album she battled through not one, but three heart attacks, and if that weren't enough an open heart surgery that never a took place. This is someone who has more than walked through a dark valley only to have God intervene and help her to see her dreams come to pass. This album is chalked full of Turner's spirit and praise all the while wrapping its positive lyrics and outlooks around a mostly contemporary bluegrass feel. Her positive vibes ring out loud and clear from the get go with the album opener "Train To Gloryland," where her combination of foot-tapping bluegrass with upbeat Gospel takes over your speakers. A similar trend is seen more often then not throughout this album with cuts like "Satisfied, Certified," the very bluegrass heavy "Last Of Our Days," and the foot-tapping "If You Get Across Jordan." Though she does slow things down from time to time giving us a chance to hear her deliver the heartfelt lyrics with all of her heart and soul, it is the upbeat tracks that make this a fun album to listen to that is full of someone's sprit rejoicing openly in the lord. Jeanne Turner may not be someone that is going to break through into the mainstream, but her story combined with her triumphs and overcoming with God's help is evident the minute you hit play on this album and that's what this labor of love is truly all about.
