Though it was CMT’s “Can You Duet” that propelled Joey + Rory to national fame, they are no strangers to the country music world. Prior to appearing on the show, Joey found herself as part of the Sony family, while Rory had a great track record of songwriting credits including Blake Shelton’s “Some Beach,” as well as cuts by the likes of Kenny Chesney, Clay Walker, Reba McEntire, etc… However it was “Can You Duet,” where the two first ventured into the always tough, duet category of country music. After winning the show, the real life couple hit the studio with Grammy Award winning producer Carl Jackson and the end result is their debut album “The Life Of A Song.” Simply put, this is as real as real can get when it comes to the country genre. Traditional fans that have been impatiently waiting for a new artist to embrace the past need not wait anymore. Joey’s vocal complete with a whole lot of twang tosses you into the album with “Play The Song,” which takes open shot at modern, mainstream radio. But, they show the listeners early on that they aren’t afraid to embrace their roots. “Sweet Emmylou” talks of an old, dusty, Emmylou Harris record helping through a heartbreak, while tracks like “Rodeo” and “Boots” bring you into their country filled lifestyle. Lead single “Cheater Cheater” and the bluegrass flavored “Tune Of A Twenty Dollar Bill” is going to bring the masses to the dance floor and get boot heels clickin.’ Most importantly though this is honest album throughout and you can feel the emotions that Joey + Rory have towards one another much due in part to the fact that they are a real life couple. This is tradition at it’s best from a modern duo that will make you think you have traveled back in time the minute you hit play.
