Band: MICHAEL MARTIN MURPHY & CARRIE HASSLER
Album: "Wildfire" Single
Label: Rural Rhythm
By: Jeff Kurtis
With the announcement of a multi-album deal signing with Rural Rhythm Records, Michael Martin Murphey has released his brand new single “Wildfire.” As an added bonus he brought in the hit female bluegrass star Carrie Hassler to duet on the remade version of the song that was recorded just two weeks prior to the recent IBMA’s in Nashville. The lyric of the song sees Murphey focused on a subject that has been a part of his illustrious career throughout the years; horses. Wildfire is in fact the pony the girl rides into Nebraska on and the song follows her tale perfectly. Hassler’s vocals are a warm welcome on the second verse of the song and perfectly offset those familiar vocals of Murphey’s. For me personally, I love the simple use of their harmony in the chorus as we hear as listeners two voices that are different from one in another come together as one offering a very smooth duet throughout the chorus. It doesn’t surprise me that this song had an overwhelming response from listeners when they first heard it and if this is any indication of what to expect from the forthcoming BUCKAROO BLUE GRASS 2 album then I suspect the excitement level on that will be high as well.
