Country music newcomer Mike Schikora isn’t actually a newcomer at all. He found his way to Nashville, secured a songwriting deal with a small company, and began to learn the business of crafting a good song and hook some 20 years ago. However, it was his eventual move to Colorado that brought out the best in his writing and led to his debut album “What’s Old Is New Again.” Mike is a true cowboy and it doesn’t take you too long after you hit play to figure this out. On tracks early on like “Colorado Cowboy,” and later in the album on “Back Under Montana Skies,” Schikora will have you wanting to grab your guitar and join him around a campfire out in the west the way it used to be done. However, he has been around the business long enough to know how to also craft a modern, upbeat, song that provides a lot of pop element as he shows on album opener “Dance Angelia,” which combines a traditional sound due to the whine of a fiddle with a mod ern sound in the vocals as he instantly grabs your attention and has you singing with him through the catchy chorus. He doesn’t forget about a well-crafted ballad throughout this album either. Songs like “She’s Got A Mind Of Her Own,” “The Way I Love You,” and “The Ring,” are easily going to get the couples out on the dance floors at countless saloons across the states. Mike Schikora’s countless hours spent writing amongst some of the best have made him a strong writer and artist and it is hard to believe “What’s Old Is New Again” is his debut album due in part to the well-crafted songs and lyrics you’ll instantly hear when you hit play.
