Band: RAZZY BAILEY
Album: Damned Good Time
Label: Sounds of America (SOA)
With so many artists out there right now that are trying to make their way onto mainstream radio it is refreshing to hear a veteran artist come along that doesn’t care much about that stuff. Razzy Bailey has already made his career and has made a loyal fan base over the years of doing it, so for him this is a labor of love at this point in his storied career. With his latest album “Damned Good Time,” Bailey took the opportunity to explore the different era’s of music eventually landing on the 70’s as his favorite time frame with artists like Merle and Waylon, Conway and Willie. With this in place he set out to create an album that didn’t copy or imitate that sound, but rather allowed him to put it proudly on display and make the old sound new again. He has more than achieved what he was going for with “Damned Good Time.” With the rocking laced vibe to his brand of country as is on display with the guitar lick on “My ‘Ol Mule,” he has successfully transported you back in time to a smoky, Broadway honky-tonk. Another aspect of this album that makes it a must listen for true country music fans are the guest appearances of legendary stars. Mickey Gilley helps out on “Blue Monday,” Johnny Cash on “Long Black Veil,” and Jennifer Brantley on “Heart of Stone.” This isn’t album for the current mainstream country music fan, but that really wasn’t the point of it. This album rather offers those fans that miss the old sound a chance to hear it again without having to spin their same old tired records.
