Richie Fields is one of those new artists that are trying to break their way onto the country music mainstream radio by bringing something familiar to the table, but not necessarily familiar to today’s mainstream country. There is still a select group of fans out there craving the older, more true country sound of yesteryear, and this newcomer should be more than enough to satisfy their needs. The lyric explores the familiar topic of losing a relationship and brings the modern technology of a cell phone conversation with it. Fields as the narrator sets the stage early on as we, the listeners, see him placing a call to the girl that is racing away from the relationship and him saying he’s sorry before she’s too far gone. The twist on the song comes early on as well as the cell phones begin to break up causing him to only hear every other word. We follow him throughout the song as he is trying to figure out if he is actually losing the girl or not. The twist is interesting enough to make the familiarity of the lyric unique and innovative. Fields delivers the song with a deep baritone voice that seems to find itself more on this type of song then some of his singles from the past. The problem that this song will have on radio is that it doesn’t follow any of the mainstream sound of today, but rather that of yesterday which radio unfairly tends to shy away from right now. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a solid song with an interesting lyric that is worth giving a listen to.
