Band: TOMMY CASH
Album: "Fade To Black"
Label: InLight Records
By: Jeff Kurtis
There are any number of artists that have stated the legendary Johnny Cash as one of their influences. Heck there are even songs named after him in today’s country music world. With countless tributes to the man in black already out there this is one that truly stands out amongst the pack for the simple fact of not only does Tommy Cash look up to Johnny the way so man country singers do, but is also Johnny’s younger brother. With the release of Fade To Black, Tommy Cash uses some of the 15 tracks that make up the record to pay tribute to his older brother when he performs spot on covers of his classic hit songs like “Walk The Line,” which features Tommy’s son Mark, “Folsom Prison Blues,” and “Ring of Fire.” However as much as this disc is used to pay homage to his big bro, Tommy also gets a chance to shine with some of his own music and personal favorites as well. Joining him on album opener “Some Kind of Woman,” a song T. Cash penned with Jimmy Rodgers long ago, is the familiar voice of the legendary George Jones while Marty Stuart lends his voice to “Six White Horses,” both standouts on this album of gems. Tommy also gives listeners a chance to hear his versions of classic songs like “On The Wings of a Dove” as well. There is no mistaking that Tommy is indeed a Cash as is evident the minute you hear his voice and for you fans of Johnny what better man to tribute him then his own brother. So “Man in Black” fans, give this album a spin and you may discover a new artist to listen to as well.
