Band: ZAIDA
Album: Little Box of Secrets
Label: Self-Released
After releasing her debut album through an independent label back in 2000, Zaida has since been focused on her songwriting and finding her sound taking it all to a whole new level and is ready to show it to the world with her new EP Little Box of Secrets. She comes out swinging with the rocking track “City,” that allows her to instantly showcase her voice as she spits out a lyric about walking away but somehow being pulled back to where it was she was trying to leave from. This same rock driven, poppy aspect of her music can be seen later on in the EP as well with “You & Me” and “7 O’clock,” which is the most modern country feeling song of the EP as it’s catchiness will have you bouncing right along with her as she again allows her voice to be well on display as she sings the relatable lyric focused on not being able to find the words that is going to stop the guy she’s in love with from leaving. Elsewhere on the EP you’ll see her taking a moment to slow things down on “Serendipity” where the instrumentation acts more as an accompaniment to her vocals and lyrics as it sort of sits in the background just helping the lyric along throughout the song. This EP accomplishes two goals for Zaida. It has allowed her to reintroduce her music to her fans and newcomers alike, and at the same time has peaked enough of an interest that I am looking forward to seeing what else she has up her sleeve for a full-length release.
